Walk UK's halls of power to talk master-subject relations during Empire days- leaving huge impacts on today's culture wars and geopolitics
About this Event

Empire State of Mind

An empire built on an idea. A promise (or illusion?) of justice, offered and then betrayed. A silent debate between heroes and villains, still raging in Parliament Square.

How was an empire justified and its "civilising mission" drafted? How did colonised peoples experience, resist and accept conquest? And how was an ancient Egyptian obelisk combine with the bravery of Gurkha soldiers to sell global wars to the British public back home?

If you stay up at night reading about conflicts (mostly with causal links to Empire), are curious about how London became so diverse, or just want to look at some cool buildings in the grandiose, imperial heart of the city, this emotional and thought-provoking walk is for you.

Your guide Achyut was born in Calcutta, the erstwhile capital of British India, and moved to London 8 years ago to work as a consultant at BCG. Constantly finding traces of his home country's past in this adopted one, he is now combining a passion for history and a deep love for London to give a colonized voice to key events of British Empire that shape our world and city to this day.
