Understanding Worry and Learning How to Manage It
A Mindful Juniors Workshop | Ages 7–12
Children in this age range are beginning to experience more complex worries.
They may worry about:
• School performance
• Friendships
• Social situations
• Getting things wrong
• Things that feel outside their control
Sometimes these worries feel big and difficult to explain. Instead of saying “I’m worried”, children might become irritable, withdrawn, clingy or overwhelmed.
This workshop helps children understand that worries are thoughts, not facts — and that they can learn how to manage them safely.
🌱 What This Workshop Is About
In this hands-on and structured session, children will:
🦖 Recognise and name their worries clearly
🦖 Externalise those worries by creating a “Worry Monster” that safely holds them
🦖 Learn the difference between helpful and unhelpful thoughts
🦖 Build a personalised Calm Kit with practical regulation tools
🦖 Develop a simple step-by-step calming plan
By turning worries into something they can see, hold and “feed” away, children learn that feelings can be managed rather than feared.
When a child can say, “This is my worry,” instead of “I am worried,” it creates emotional distance and confidence.

This workshop supports:
• Emotional awareness

• Self-regulation
• Problem-solving
• Confidence in handling uncertainty
• Resilience in school and friendships
These are core social-emotional skills that support long-term wellbeing and independence.
🎨 What We Will Do During the Session
Children will:
• Participate in a gentle emotion check-in
• Identify common worry thoughts
• Create their own Worry Monster
• Learn calming tools such as breathing, grounding and positive self-talk
• Build a Personal Calm Kit they can use at home or school
• Leave with a simple coping plan
The session is interactive, creative and conducted in a psychologically safe small-group setting.

• Struggle to calm down once overwhelmed
• Would benefit from structured coping tools
No prior experience is required.
