About this Event
In Emory Douglas: In Our Lifetime at the African American Art & Culture Complex, the past, present and future of political movements and revolutions is on full display in the Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party’s art, words, and life. Douglas’ work illustrates the deep connections between internationalist struggles and intersectional movements including the fight for Palestine, the Zapatista movement, Black-Asian solidarity during COVID-19, and more. The exhibition exemplifies the Panther’s slogan, “All Power to the People.”
On June 18, 2026, the African American Art & Culture Complex gathers a panel of storytellers, culture keepers, and movement leaders inspired by Emory Douglas: In Our Lifetime to share their answer to the question, “What values underlie our struggles and make cross‑movement, intergenerational solidarity possible?” We will also touch on tactics that strengthen intergenerational organizing and lessons learned from previous cultural movements.
This conversation is part of both the exhibition and a strategic planning process aimed at exploring the values that will guide the AAACC into the future. Audience members will be invited to share their insights from the panel both during a talk back as well as through written responses. Language shared will inform deeper articulation of the AAACC’s guiding values and ensure a broad, intersectional view for the years to come.
