This fall, the artist collective Friends of Emily (aka Fremilies for short) invites the public to experience Emily’s Backyard, a group exhibition inspired by the natural beauty of Beacon Hill Park and the enduring spirit of Emily Carr. Hosted at the historic Emily Carr House, the show runs from October 11 to November 15, 2025. Working across a variety of mediums and styles, the 12 artists in the exhibition draw inspiration from Carr’s own words:
“The liveness in me just loves to feel the liveness in growing things, in grass and rain and leaves and flowers and sun and feathers and furs and earth and sand and moss.”
— Emily Carr
Each piece is a reflection of the artists’ connection to nature—its textures, rhythms, and quiet vitality. From layered landscapes to abstract impressions, the show is a celebration of growth, place, and creative legacy.
Opening Celebration:
Saturday, October 11, 2025
10:00–4:00 PM
Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition during regular house hours (Thurs., Fri. & Sat. 10am - 4pm) and experience the dialogue between contemporary art and Carr’s historic home.
