About this Event

Emily Best

Emily Best (they/she) is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who resides in the occupied Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish). Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations of so-called Vancouver B.C.

Their unique orchestration and arrangements paired with distinctive melodies weave a patchwork of pop, rock, and folk, while melding the idiosyncratic leanings of jazz with the familiar nostalgia of southern country-soul.

Incorporating harp, pedal steel, jazz guitar, strings, horns, their debut album “A Storm Came Through” is described as “a marvelous musical medley that combines old-time Americana, contemporary jazz, avant-pop and orchestral folk. It’s unlike anything I’ve heard before.” Noted as having “the same appeal as cursive writing—elegant and rare” by The Permanent Rain Press, Best’s “lush and soulful” composition and unique production style have classified them as “an artist who could be as comfortable on a folk festival stage as a jazz gig” by the The Vancouver Sun.

The Chapel

Located in a recently restored heritage bulding (St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church), The Chapel is an intimate space perfect for happy hour, live music, poetry readings, and small gatherings.

On the corner of Nelson and Burrard, we're right in the heart of Downtown and the West End. Look for the glowing pink doors behind the 2/44 bus stop on Burrard St.

This fall we're hosting live music, pop-up, happy hours on select Fridays. Join us for wine, beer, and light snacks after work or before heading out for the night!

Doors open at 6:00pm, with live music starting at 6:30pm. Last call around 9pm.

This event is being held on the stolen, ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Skxwú7mesh-ulh, and Tsleil-Waututh nations. As we live and organize space as settlers on these lands, we have an obligation to continuously work to repair harms perpetrated upon Indigenous communities, presently and historically.

Oppressive attitudes and behaviour -- including but not limited to misogyny, transphobia, racism, fatphobia, cultural appropriation and ableism -- are not welcome here - this is a brave West End space.

Accessibility:
