Parliamentary Jazz Award–winning vocalist Emilia Mårtensson is widely recognised as one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from UK jazz. Known for her gently expressive tone and emotionally rich storytelling, she was described by The Observer as “the new face of British jazz,” while Jazzwise praised her as “a voice of quite remarkable expressive depth.”
Born in southern Sweden to Swedish and Slovenian heritage and now based in Berlin, Emilia spent over two decades living and working in London. Drawing on Scandinavian folk traditions while moving fluidly between lyric-driven songcraft, jazz, art-pop and improvised music, her work combines emotional clarity with rhythmic finesse and a strong sense of space, atmosphere and dynamic contrast. As The Guardian wrote, she “invests every sound with a skimming, rapturous lightness and clarity.”
Sharing the stage is The Magic Lantern, the project of British songwriter Jamie Doe. An independent artist with a fiercely loyal international following, he has toured across the UK, Europe and Australia, and performed at venues and events including the BBC Proms, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. His music—blending jazz, indie and chamber pop, has been recorded at Abbey Road Studios and championed widely across BBC radio and Jazz FM.
Deeply personal yet widely resonant, his songwriting has connected with audiences and musicians worldwide, with his work recorded by artists from Emilia Mårtensson to the RTV Slovenian Big Band. In his own words, his music is rooted in a belief that songs can help people better understand themselves and their lives.
This special double bill brings together two singular voices in contemporary music, joined by acclaimed pianist Matt Robinson and saxophonist Adam Waldmann for an evening of evocative, boundary-crossing music..
