Island is a musical trip in which seafarers, after a shipwreck, find themselves stranded on a mysterious island. Island is a reflection on the human spirit — its resilience, imagination, and the sheer wonder of existence.
They become entangled and entranced as they struggle to survive. When they encounter a magical fountain that can grant every wish, one question remains: what is it that you deepest desire?
This eclectic and polyrhythmic composition is performed by the Emil van Steenwijk Sextet, featuring Emil van Steenwijk (guitar), Bart Hoevenaars (keys), Erwin Stoepmans (guitar), Jos Hoevenaars (bass), Jorn van Dijk (synthesizer & soundscapes) and Jasper den Dulk (drums).
Visual artist Koos Buist (Groningen) created the atmospheric imagery that transports the audience through this immersive musical experience.
Eiland is currently in its pilot phase.
The full performance will premiere this spring.
