About this Event
The EMH Toronto Energy Modelling Exchange is a half-day, in-person symposium taking place on February 27, 2026, from 8:30 to 12:30, followed by a networking lunch, at the Schulich Executive Learning Centre, York University. The event focuses on assessing energy and electricity modelling capacities and needs in Ontario in an environment of growing uncertainty.
Ontario’s energy system is facing converging pressures, including shifting trade relationships, rapid technological change, and the increasing impacts of climate change. In this context, effective planning depends on how modelling tools, data, and expertise are mobilized across institutions, and how analytical evidence is translated into real-world planning and policy decisions.
The symposium brings together system planners, policymakers, utilities, academics, and independent analysts for a focused exchange on how modelling capacity in Ontario can evolve to better support future decision-making.
The program features two moderated panels. The first examines modelling practices, needs, and challenges within Ontario’s energy agencies and planning institutions. The second highlights modelling work from post-secondary institutions and civil society, and explores how independent analysis can complement official planning processes.
The event includes a networking break and a purpose-driven lunch, and is designed to foster dialogue across institutions and analytical communities. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of Ontario’s evolving electricity planning needs, the diversity of modelling capacities inside and outside formal institutions, and opportunities to strengthen the role of modelling in supporting robust, credible, and transparent decisions.
