Emerging Wisdom Panels: A Collaborative Art Installation

Hi! I’m Tess Keehn, here to invite you to join in the easy creativity coming to our courtyard this February. The Emerging Wisdom Panels Project is a collaborative art installation designed to reflect the many ways that Spiritual Life Center supports the personal growth in everyone who attends.

Perhaps you have noticed the large Heart Hands collage in four frames on the north wall of our courtyard. It was created 25 years ago, reflecting the congregation at that time and seems ready for an update!

I started thinking that the empty space next to that collage could easily accept a large rainbow, stretching across 4 canvas panels that would serve as the resting place for congregants’ individual statements to be added on some smaller, personal canvas. …Then a butterfly landed in my imagination. This potent symbol of transformation seemed ideal!

So, every one of you is invited to participate in the creation of this group art project! Please take some time to ponder the gifts and growth that have come from your experiences at SLC and distill those down to a word or short phrase.

Then, on Sundays February 2nd, 9th and 16th, you are invited to collect your small canvas butterfly and use our permanent markers to PRINT your word or phrase. You can add your name if you like. You can select where you want your butterfly to land and live on the rainbow of the Spiritual Life Center Emerging Wisdom Panels.

The poet, Pablo Neruda, once wrote in Spanish:

Y algo golpeaba en mi alma…meaning…And something ignited my soul!

THAT flame is what I’m inviting each of you to kindle and nourish and your words for it are what I hope to see written on the wings of YOUR Butterfly. Namaste!
