On Day 5 of Embrace Ideas Festival, hosted by Mass College of Art, we kick off Juneteenth Celebrations with a keyonte conversation with

The panel that follows, facilitated by Latoyia Edwards of NBCUniversal Boston, explores what equity looks and feels like for a community by learning from the past with the following esteemed historians: Dr. Kellie Carter Jackson, author and professor, Wellesley College; L’Merchie Frazier, Museum of African American History; and Dr. Johnnie Hamilton-Mason, professor, Simmons University and King Boston Scholar-in-Residence.

We also commemorate the first honorees of the Embrace Awards: Mayor Kim Janey and Robert Lewis, Jr.

We close out the Festival with a joy-filled and soulful Juneteenth block party in Nubian Square. Come celebrate America’s original Independence Day with food, music, and lots of love!

The Embrace Ideas Festival is a yearly celebration of ideas grounded in arts, culture and public scholarship. This week-long gathering brings together local, state and national leaders to amplify anti-racism and a vision for a transformed Boston by 2030. Rooted in racial equity, healing, wellbeing, and joy, the theme of Embrace Ideas 2022, occurring June 13-17 of 2022, is “Building A New Boston Together”. Keynotes, panels, and live music will shine a light on how we can interrupt our zero sum game thinking when it comes to racial justice and realizing a democracy worthy of us all. In this inaugural celebration, King Boston will also introduce a community well-being dashboard that will be revisited annually to describe measurable transformation in Boston by 2030 toward radical inclusion and equity.
