About this Event
On Day 1 of Embrace Ideas Festival, hosted by The Boston Foundation, author Heather McGhee joins Boston Foundation President Dr. Lee Pelton in a conversation about upending our zero-sum game thinking when it comes to race and racism. The duo will explore themes from McGhee’s The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together, setting the stage for a week of rich conversation around how we heal and build together.
Following the keynote session, King Boston’s Director of Community Engaged Research, Dr. April Inniss will present a new community Well-Being Dashboard: a new BIPOC-centric measure of wellbeing that will help us frame, articulate, and advocate for policies that promote joy and wellbeing in Boston.
Unwind, connect, and enjoy an evening cocktail reception sponsored by The Boston Foundation with fellow Festival attendees from 4-6pm with Gregory Groover, Jr.’s Jazz Quartet in the Atrium.

The Embrace Ideas Festival is a yearly celebration of ideas grounded in arts, culture and public scholarship. This week-long gathering brings together local, state and national leaders to amplify anti-racism and a vision for a transformed Boston by 2030. Rooted in racial equity, healing, wellbeing, and joy, the theme of Embrace Ideas 2022, occurring June 13-17 of 2022, is “Building A New Boston Together”. Keynotes, panels, and live music will shine a light on how we can interrupt our zero sum game thinking when it comes to racial justice and realizing a democracy worthy of us all. In this inaugural celebration, King Boston will also introduce a community well-being dashboard that will be revisited annually to describe measurable transformation in Boston by 2030 toward radical inclusion and equity.
