Ember:

Still Burning, Still Alive is a deeply moving and harrowing theatrical project inspired by the

real-life survival stories of Sikh families during the horrific Delhi genocide

of 1984. The narrative unfolds through the eyes of a Sikh woman whose world is

violently shattered in a single day—November 1st, a day that began like any

other but quickly descended into chaos and unimaginable cruelty. Her husband is

mercilessly burned alive, and her son is brutally murdered in front of her,

acts of extreme violence that mark the onset of a nightmare no family should

endure. Adding to this unbearable trauma, her daughter is subjected to the

brutal and horrifying violation of being gang-raped by a group of 8 to 10 men,

a wound that leaves deep scars on her and her family’s collective soul.

The play is

a solemn reflection on how ordinary lives were torn apart by the political and

communal violence that engulfed Delhi, turning streets into scenes of terror

and despair. Through the intimate and raw portrayal of this family’s suffering,

Ember: Still Burning, Still Alive delves into themes of loss, pain,

resilience, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. It captures the

silence and screams of those whose voices were once silenced but whose stories

now demand to be heard.
