About this Event

Emancipation Day: Freedom Across the Anglo-Caribbean

Join the African American Research Library & Cultural Center (AARLCC), in partnership with Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, for a vibrant family-friendly program on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 1–4 PM, celebrating Emancipation Day, which marked the end of enslavement in the English-speaking Caribbean in 1834. The program will honor the history, culture, and legacy of freedom observed across Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, The Bahamas, Belize, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Dominica.

Through storytelling, cultural exploration, and educational activities, this program invites all ages to experience the spirit and significance of emancipation across the region.
