Em Sintonia is a day-long celebration of Brazilian music, bringing together movement, rhythm, language, ensemble playing and live performance in an immersive experience that invites audiences to discover one of the world's richest musical traditions. Taking place at ICMP London, the event is designed to connect people through participation, celebrating Brazilian music not simply as a repertoire to learn, but as a living culture where rhythm, storytelling, dance and community are inseparable.

In the afternoon, the focus shifts towards musicians wishing to deepen their understanding of Brazilian music in a practical ensemble setting. Instrumentalists will work in small groups led by acclaimed Brazilian musicians Marcinho Pereira and Matheus Nova and the rest of their team, exploring groove, rhythmic language, accompaniment, phrasing, improvisation and ensemble interaction across a range of Brazilian styles.

Vocalists will join celebrated Brazilian singer Carolina Lelis (Da Lata) in a dedicated workshop exploring Portuguese pronunciation, stylistic interpretation, phrasing, expression and the unique feel and storytelling of Brazilian repertoire.

Em Sintonia is led by vocalist, educator and ICMP Vocal Leader Francesca Confortini, whose work bridges professional performance and higher music education, alongside renowned composer, arranger and pianist Ryan Mackenzie, whose passion for Brazilian music and orchestral writing lies at the heart of the Mosaico project. Together, they have created a programme that aims to broaden access to Brazilian music within UK music education while celebrating its cultural depth and authenticity. The project is coordinated by Hannah Hutton, Jazz Programme Manager at Kings Place, whose extensive experience in producing large-scale artistic and educational programmes has helped shape the event into a day of learning, collaboration and cultural exchange.

Throughout the day, participants are encouraged to meet, collaborate and make music together. Whether you're attending alone or with friends, Em Sintonia is designed to create new musical connections across communities and disciplines.

What should I bring?

Your instrument if attending the instrumental workshops (excluding piano, drum kit and percussion provided), a notebook if you'd like to take notes, and plenty of enthusiasm!

Who is this event for?

Em Sintonia welcomes curious listeners, dancers, music students, professional musicians, educators and anyone interested in discovering Brazilian music. The morning session is open to everyone over 18 years old with no previous experience required, while the afternoon workshops are aimed at musicians aged 18 and above wishing to develop their understanding of Brazilian styles in a practical ensemble setting. The evening performance has no age restrictions and everyone is welcome to attend.

• Participants must be 18 years of age or over on the day of the event.

• Workshop places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your first booked session to allow time for registration.

• Instrumental workshop participants should bring their own instrument where applicable (piano, drum kit and percussion will be provided).

• Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement during the morning workshop.

• Tickets are non-transferable. Refunds will only be issued if the event is cancelled or in exceptional circumstances at the organisers' discretion.

• Photographs and video recordings may be taken throughout the day for promotional and archival purposes. If you would prefer not to appear in any images, please let a member of the team know on arrival.
