About this Event
Life Drawing + Small Private Guided Tour:
'Animals Inside and Among Us: Drawing Unusual Props'
In 1859, Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species was published, introducing the idea that humans are related to—and are themselves—animals for the first time. However, humans are still often seen as separate, with animals classified as wild/exotic or tame/domesticated. Throughout history, artists have combined animal and human features to symbolise humanity’s relationship with nature by depicting animals in their natural environments alongside humans, or in imagined scenes.
Sometimes we look for human traits in our pets and also notice animal traits in ourselves. This session focuses on interpreting expressions through animal character traits, drawing humans as part of the wildlife and imagining animals with human characteristics; especially relevant today when we are slowly losing touch with nature. We will explore the harmony between the model and animal props fabricated by Asylum Models & Effects at their own workshop where props come to life.
