ABOUT ELWAND:
Elrond is lan Gorman Weiland (Antecessor, Hot Victory) and Vern Avola (Avola, EMS, Prizehog, Bear Spray). Hailing from Portland, Oregon they provide a wide range of genre spanning soundtracks to usher in the bleak dystopian future now seemingly assigned to the human race. From hard hitting beats with relentless melodic sequences, to ambient slow burn, swamp slogging drones, Elrond bestows lush analog tones and digital arpeggios to the masses. The two-piece, always accompanied by multiple tables of wire strewn analog and digital gear, combine their musical backgrounds of noise, metal, classical, and techno to conjure unique compositions. Be it melodic dance, deep listening, or somber reverb wall drone, Elrond can be considered a project that refuses to allow scenes, labels or genres to define it. Elrond is love.
As Moss Wand, Troy Micheau and Brianna Sas explore the intersection of sound and healing in through electronic meditations. Cascades of droning synthesizers and the resonance of crystal singing bowls generate deep healing vibrations to provide beings with
a place to simply rest with Mother Earth - a place to come home to themselves.
Together they are ELWAND, a force of friendship and healing.
Francisco Botello is a sound artist and composer born and raised in Chula Vista, California. Growing up a dual citizen on the dividing line between the United States and Mexico, their work reflects on the nature of place and belonging. Gathering and composing with field recordings, alongside computer music tools, they explore questions of identity, ancestry, geography, change, and loss. Recently, they have been experimenting with gestural control and working with immersive, multi-channel sound systems as ways to connect their art more intimately with their body and audience. In 2019 they helped co-found whateverSpace, a makerspace offering free and sliding scale workshops as well as technology rentals with priority going to the QTBIPOC community. Their multi-channel work has been showcased at places such as Oregon Center for Contemporary Art, PNCA, and the Portland Art Museum.
Carly Barton is a designer, composer, and anime enthusiast living in Portland, OR.
