Elmwood Walks: America 250 / Detroit 325
About this Event
This July, America celebrates 250 years since declaring independence from the British crown, and Detroit observes 325 years since Cadillac landed on our shores to found a city for new France. These anniversaries have long been intertwined.
Join us for a spin through three centuries of solemn observances and silly celebrations alike, from Evacuation Day (ever heard of it?) to Cadillaqua, the 1976 Bicentennial, the 2001 Detroit Tricentennial and many points in between.
This is a walking tour! It will last about two hours and will be held in most kinds of weather. Please check the forecast and come prepared! Most walking is on paved roads, but we will occasionally venture into the grass to get a closer look at some monuments.
This tour is developed and will be led by Historic Elmwood Foundation Director Amy Elliott Bragg. It's free to join, but space is limited, so please sign up!
