Join us to celebrate a book launch for "A Necklace of White Pearls," poems by Shez translated by Elliott batTzedek.
This event will be in our lower-level event space. Reservations are requested via Eventbrite. Books can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite and will be for sale at the event.
About the Book
"A Necklace of White Pearls" is a poem cycle that both celebrates and and dismantles stories of God and Abraham in order to convey the experience of surviving incest.
About the Author
Israeli Jewish Lesbian writer Shez, born 1959, has been an activist, a punk rock musician, and a writing teacher. She’s published five books, and was named an “Honored Cultural Figure” of the gay community. She's been an active partner in the translation process.
About the Translator
Elliott batTzedek holds an MFA in Poetry and Poetry in Translation from Drew University, where her translation of Shez's poetry collection Dance of the Lunatic won the Robert Bly Translation prize, judged by Martha Collins. Her original poems and liturgy have been published widely. She lives in Philadelphia in the exact amount of her home her cats allow her to consider her own.
