If you’re picturing a sullen woman perched atop a wooden stool, playing depressing songs on her oversized acoustic, you’ve pegged her all wrong. Mary prefers to strum along on her Gretsch, singing clever pop songs, and sharing anecdotes about her love of baking, cats, and hopes of becoming Sidney Crosby’s wife.

8:50 PM-9:30 PM - Nick Faye (Regina, SK)

Nick Faye is a songwriter from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, living on Treaty 4 Territory. Growing out of the same Saskatchewan emo-acoustic-hardcore scene of the late 2000's that spawned the likes of Andy Shauf, Foxwarren, and Northcote, Faye crafts timeless songs that honour this past, embracing the hopes, dreams and frustrations of life lived in the Canadian Prairies. Fusing this with a clear love of mid-90s Pop Rock (think Rick Dees and The Weekly Top 40 in 1999), he creates songs that stick in the mind like a prairie snowdrift - taking their sweet time to melt away, slowly revealing the hope of new beginnings to come.

9:40PM-10:20PM - Ellen Froese (Saskatoon, SK / Toronto, ON)

Ellen Froese is what you'd call a “prolific artist”; committed, too. For someone who only just passed the threshold of their mid-20s, she's amassed a resolutely solid body of work and, with a variety of projects, achieved more than some many years her senior. For Each Flower Growing, Froese's fourth full-length, produced in collaboration with the Sheepdogs' Sam Corbett, is her most accomplished statement to date, drawing on her established sound as a folk & country-based singer/songwriter while incorporating a wider frame of reference in the rich production, supple instrumentation, and overall sonic soundworld. It's much harder to pin down than any simple description can convey, making it all the more worthwhile to check out.
