We are thrilled to present a 4-week residency by Micah Miller and Bailey Hinkley Grogan as they celebrate the legacy of two of the most iconic musicians in history - Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - and the records they made together. It's hard to overstate the impact these two musicians had on the trajectory of 20th century music. Despite a decades-long friendship and rich history of live collaboration, the two only released 3 complete studio records, on the Verve label. This Thursday night series celebrates the iconic recordings the two made together with some beloved classics from the Great American Songbook. Micah and Bailey will be joined by some of Colorado's favorite musicians: Tom Amend (piano), Ian Spillman (drums), and Patrick McDevitt (bass). Bailey Elizabeth Hinkley Grogan is a jazz vocalist, songwriter, educator, and performer based out of Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA. Her bright, yet melancholy sound is a reflection of her deep study into the jazz idiom while simultaneously playing homage to her influences in Nancy Wilson, Chick Corea, Sheryl Crow, and Jamie Cullum. Her improvisatory style is fearless and bold, while her songwriting and lyrical delivery reflects the raw, emotional heartache and undying beauty found in her life story. Her music, which resembles the likes of Folk, R&B, and Jazz styles, is a reflection of intense experiences in her young life.
Micah Miller is a composer, performer and educator living in Denver. Micah grew up in Wyoming, where he started learning piano, trumpet and voice from a young age. He studied jazz trumpet and voice at the University of Northern Colorado, and recently completed a Master’s in trumpet performance from the University of Wyoming. As a freelancing musician, Micah plays around the Northern Colorado and Wyoming area in a variety of ensembles and musical settings. He recently released his debut album of original works for jazz quintet, Why Not Here?, in September 2023.
