The impact parents have on their children is immense, especially in regards to their passions. At the age of 3, René (father of Ava) had a drawing saved by his mother, an illustration of Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy, which he still has today. As the years passed “Gramma Landa” (as she is known to Ava) and other family members continued to support René’s love for drawing, then painting and illustrating. His grandmother Natalia would save the Sunday “funnies” for him to be inspired, his father would buy him comic books for holidays and birthdays, and teachers throughout grade school would offer him praise.
Ava is an exuberant 6 year old and created her first painting at 9 months old with the help of her dad. She will have just finished kindergarten at the time of this show and loves to craft, build, and draw. When asked what her favorite thing to draw is, she states “my girls”. Ava also claims that she would like to be an artist when she grows up.
Ava and René currently reside in Albuquerque with their mom/wife Tara, and dog, Ella. Ava chose to title this show after her dog and René agreed to it because of the play on words. Ella in Spanish translates to “she/her”. This body of work is a celebration of Ava and her efforts to share her creative concepts, along with continuing the cycle of support for a young person’s artistic endeavors.
