With a darker, chamber style of Americana-Pop music, Eliza Spear brings an introspective yet approachable sound to train stations, festivals, backyards, and any room that will allow her to call it a stage. The 23-year-old artist is based out of Brooklyn, and leads with grit and honesty.At thirteen, Spear walked into Los Angeles venues and told them why she was the right person to be on their stages. When she was shut down, she saved up her babysitting money to record a three song EP, which she brought right back to the venues that had rejected her. She booked her first show at fourteen.
Spear spent the summer of 2021 on a cross-country tour she created and booked herself called "The 'Can I Play In Your Backyard?' Tour." This tour was in conjunction with a Kickstarter campaign that quickly surpassed its goal through her innate ability to highlight the power of human connection. The campaign raised funds to produce her debut album.
Focused on the in-person experience, Spear spends her time busking to queue lines outside of venues and offering people donuts in Central Park in exchange for getting them to listen to her music. She hosts intimate listening parties in bookstores and boutiques, passing out QR codes around town as her means of getting people to the events.
Now with a debut record that We Write About Music says, “provides listeners with that quintessential album experience that feels like a lost art nowadays,” Spear continues to open doors for herself, leading with tenacity, curiosity, and the ability to laugh at herself.
