About this Event
That new buildings too often consume many times more energy in reality than their designers predict at design stage – known as the “performance gap” - is a scandal.
This lecture will outline Architype’s radical approach to eliminating this performance gap in buildings, without which our industry will never meet the challenge of climate change. By applying the rigour of Passivhaus, a building physics approach to design, Architype has delivered building after building with radically reduced energy consumption and carbon emissions. Jonathan will explain how Passivhaus works, highlight the misconceptions and challenges surrounding it, and demonstrate through evidence that it works, gained through monitoring in use. Jonathan will also describe why and how Passivhaus is now taking off rapidly across Scotland.
Jonathan Hines has been an Architect since 1987; he became a director of Architype in 1989 and overall Managing Director in 2015. Jonathan currently leads Architype’s strategic and business planning, and oversees the work of Architype’s three offices in London, Hereford and Edinburgh.
Jonathan has a life-long commitment to design and sustainability and has led the development of Architype’s innovative approach to sustainable design. He has managed the teams that have delivered many of Architype’s pioneering projects
