The Norwich Philharmonic makes its long-awaited return to St Andrew’s Hall, the Phil’s home since 1841, for its next concert on Saturday 21st March performing Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius. One of the best loved of British choral works, it will be performed by the Norwich Phil Chorus and Orchestra under chorus conductor, Ashley Grote.
Gerontius was recently the focus of a major new feature film, (The Choral, starring Ralph Fiennes and with a screenplay by Alan Bennett) and we have our own superstar line-up of soloists – the acclaimed Diana Moore, whose voice so perfectly suits the role of the Angel (she has sung it 3 times before with the Phil), Gwilym Bowen whose grandfather, the late Welsh tenor, Kenneth Bowen sang the tenor role more than 200 times, and the celebrated bass, Ashley Riches.
It will be an emotional return to St Andrew’ Hall, closed since January 2024 for an £8 million refurbishment, with music that was famously performed here in 1908 under the baton of Sir Henry Wood at the Norwich Triennial Musical Festival.
Tickets priced £15 and £26 (£8 and £13 for under 26) are available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/norwichphil
