Elevating the perspectives of traditionally marginalised groups, including through considering intersectionality, is a growing area of interest in the field of international affairs. The concept of intersectionality refers to the way in which overlapping elements of an individual's identity such as gender, race and age collectively impact, whether for the better or worse, their experiences and perspectives.
Co-hosted by the Australian Institute of International Affairs – Queensland (AIIA-QLD) with Women in International Security – Australia (WIIS-A) Inc., this event will bring together an esteemed panel of female practitioners currently navigating the field of international affairs. Each panellist will share their lived experience on how intersectionality affects them on a personal level, and more broadly how intersectional inclusion impacts research outcomes and policymaking. Ultimately, the panel event will deepen participants' understanding about the value of adopting an intersectional lens to international affairs.
