ABOUT EleKousticaAs a Jazz musician Paul Armstrong was mentored early in his career by Lennie Tristano disciple and Jazz trumpeter, Don Ferrara, as well as learning the tools of the commercial music trade from trumpet titan, Bobby Shew. As a performing artist Paul has had the privilege and honour of recording, performing and touring with many of the world's finest bands and jazz musicians. Paul’s musical honours include Grammy and Latin Grammy awards with Mexico City based recording duo Jesse Y Joy (2016), two Grammy nominations with the legendary Mavericks (2015) for their Big Machine cd release “Mono” and as a finalist in the 1990 Louis Armstrong International Jazz Trumpet Competition (Monk Competition) at Baird auditorium in Washington D.C.. Paul’s thirty year long continued interest in the visual arts and music technology has recently culminated in the creation of the multi-genre improvisational group, EleKoustiKa.
Ash Hall:
Ash Hall has been playing locally and afar for many years. Picking up the trumpet at an early age, he quickly felt a deep connection with his instrument. Ash then spent time in Brisbane, developing his musical/performance skills, performing full time on the club circuit. Ash also took every opportunity to perform at events, restaurants, corporate events and so forth. Upon Ash's return to Armidale, he quickly joined working bands, Jazz Pump, Al Heney Rhythm and Blues Band, Maxwell Street, Mahogany Frogs, Caution Horses and his own trios exploring the history of jazz. Ash has established himself as an artist often called upon locally and afar to contribute to others' projects. Over the years Ash has embarked upon a variety of projects exploring the possibilities of sound and texture and the flow of ideas through improvisation and fearless creativity. Lyricism has always been at the heart of his playing. Ash regularly plays a multitude of festivals, musicals, concerts and in recording studios and these experiences have expanded his musicality.
Lisa Goldzieher:
Lisa Goldzieher is an actor, writer, director, producer and University teacher. She is passionate about making thought provoking creative work that re centres community and challenges dominant social narratives. Lisa has trained in Theatre and Performance at various institutions including; The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Melbourne University (MU) and The University of New England (UNE), as well as participating in several master classes with various artists and companies. In 2022, Lisa started a production company ‘Empty Space Productions’ in Armidale, NSW. She worked with musicians, theatre makers and performance poets to create four unique performance events for the Armidale community, culminating in the ‘Vivace folk festival’.
