Electrotechnical standardization and related conformity assessment systems

ILNAS is organizing a workshop dedicated to electrical and electrotechnical standardization and the associated certification systems on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. In this context, it is with great pleasure that ILNAS will welcome Mr. Jo Cops, president of the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and Mr. Dan Sullivan, deputy secretary of IECEE (IEC System for Conformity Assessment Schemes for Electrotechnical Equipment and Components), who will provide a detailed overview of standardization within IEC, present the Young Professional programme, and provide information on the IECEE certification system, which is based on the standards developed by the organization, enabling the recognition of delivered certificates among all participating members.

IEC is the international standardization organization in charge of the standards development in the electrotechnical field. Along the publication of electrotechnical standards, its activities also cover the establishment of conformity assessment systems.

Complementary to the accreditation and certification, these conformity assessment systems base their principle on the recognition of delivered standards among member countries, reducing the international trade barriers. Moreover, this approach contributes to building “trust”, for the benefits of a client-supplier relationship. By basing the certification schemes on international standards, the customer is reinsured that the product is reliable, safe and of high-quality. This principle of certification is implemented via numerous conformity assessment systems, including the IECEE system which covers the following electrical consumer goods and professional equipment:
