(Electronic) Composition Basics - German or English

Learn how to structure your song ideas with different composition frameworks and create first sketches you can finish without losing focus.
About this Event

In this workshop, I’ll be offering an insight into the compositional frameworks I use. From the static conventions of Western classical music (such as a symphony) to entirely loop-based concepts, there are endless possibilities for writing (electronic) music. I’ll present various approaches, and then, in working sessions, we’ll develop initial sketches that you can take home and refine.

I’ll introduce you to four compositional concepts:

• Loops and samples: Layer-based composition
• Melodies: Hook-based composition
• Themes: Motif-based composition
• Framework: Conceptual composition

Based on these, we’ll work out a song structure for each concept, which you can then develop further at home.

This workshop is aimed at people who want to expand their composition skills. Familiarity with a DAW is an advantage, but you don’t need to be a mixing expert or a sound design professional. A basic knowledge of (Western) music theory is also an advantage.

In diesem Workshop gebe ich in einen Einblick in verschiedene Kompositions-Frameworks, die ich verwende. Von statischen Vorgaben aus der westlichen klassischen Musik (z.B. einer Symphonie) bis hin zu komplett loop-basierten Konzepten gibt es unendlich viele Möglichkeiten, (elektronische) Musik zu schreiben. Ich stelle verschiedene Ansätze vor und dann erarbeiten wir in Working Sessions erste Skizzen, die du mit nach Hause nehmen und verfeinern kannst.

Basierend auf diesen erarbeiten wir pro Konzept eine Lied-Struktur, die du dann zuhause weiter entwickelst.

Dieser Workshop richtet sich an Menschen, die ihre Kompositions-Skills erweitern wollen. Ein sicherer Umgang mit einer DAW ist von Vorteil, jedoch musst du kein Mixing-Crack oder Sound Design-Profi sein. (Westliche) musiktheoretische Grundkenntnisse sind ebenfalls von Vorteil.
