Die ELECTRI_CITY Conference findet in diesem Jahr zum 10. Mal in Düsseldorf statt, und wir gehen zur Feier des Tages zurück zu den Anfängen: zurück zu Elektronischer Musik. ELECTRI_CITY.
Wer könnte uns da willkommener sein als der Gast der ersten Stunde: Andy McCluskey. Er wird kurz zuvor die amerikanische Tour von OMD beendet haben, um uns am Samstag, den 26. Okt von seiner besonderen Beziehung zu Düsseldorf zu berichten.
John Foxx hat mit seiner Band Ultravox! Musikgeschichte geschrieben und viele seiner besten Platten mit den deutschen Produzenten Conny Plank und Zeus B. Held aufgenommen. Foxx arbeitete danach vermehrt als Autor und Graphiker, und hat sich deshalb zur Verstärkung Jonathan Barnbrook, den preisgekrönten Designer von David Bowie mitgebracht. Gemeinsam werden sie am Freitag Abend ihr neues Buch präsentieren.
Am gleichen Abend wird es noch eine zweite Buchpräsentation geben: Sheila Rock hat ihren Bildband 'New Romantics' fertiggestellt und wird ihn nach der furiosen Premiere in London nun in Düsseldorf vorstellen. Sheila ist durch ihre Fotoarbeiten zu den Anfängen des Punk bekannt geworden, war aber auch zugegen, als sich Bands wie Spandau Ballet und Visage im Blitz Club gründeten. Im Rahmen der ELECTRI_CITY Conference wird es eine kleine begleitende Ausstellung ihrer Werke geben.
Am Samstag, den 26. Oktober wird sich Produzentenlegende Gareth Jones den Fragen von Erik Stein stellen. Der Mann der die Hansa-Studios kennt wie kein Zweiter hat dort mit Depeche Mode die Karrieredefinierenden Alben der Band produziert. Er war mit den Berliner Legenden Ideal und Einstürzende Neubauten im Studio und hat mit Erik einen Interviewpartner gefunden, der den ein oder anderen Querverweis auf John Foxx herstellen kann.
Gloria Jones hat im Jahr 1964 einen Motown-Song veröffentlicht, der noch heute in aller Ohren ist, aber vor allem als elektronische Version von Soft Cell im Jahr 1981 zum zweiten Mal die Hitparaden stürmte. Gloria wird hierfür von Tony Mann interviewt, der neben ihrem musikalischen Schaffen auch die Lebensgeschichte der Frau an Marc Bolan s Seite bestens kennt.
Netflix hat zuletzt das bunte Treiben um die New Romantic Szene Londons entdeckt und dem sagenumwobenen Blitz-Club in Covent Garden ein Denkmal gesetzt. DJ Rusty Egan wird zur Jubiläums-Conference anreisen, da er mit uns gemeinsam das Format im Jahr 2015 an den Start gebracht hat. Rusty wird die historische Playlist aus dem Jahr 1980 mit Rudi Esch diskutieren und zu vorgerückter Stunde ein DJ-Set im Salon des Amateurs ausrichten, das sich an der aktuellen Elektronischen Musik orientiert. The ELECTRI_CITY Conference is taking place for the 10th time in Düsseldorf already and to mark this 10th Anniversary we are going back to the beginnings: back to electronic music. ELECTRI_CITY.
Who could be more welcome than the guest from the very beginning: Andy McCluskey. He will have just finished OMD's American tour the weekend before to tell us about his special relationship with Düsseldorf on Saturday, October 26th. He will be on a straight connection from Tampa, Florida to Dusseldorf-City.
John Foxx wrote music history with his band Ultravox! and recorded many of his best records with the German producers Conny Plank and Zeus B. Held. Foxx then worked as an author and graphic artist in the first place, therefore he's bringing Jonathan Barnbrook, David Bowie's award-winning designer, alongside. They will present their new book together on Friday evening.
There will be a second book presentation on the same evening as Sheila Rock has finished her illustrated book 'New Romantics' and will now present it in Düsseldorf after the fantastic premiere in London. Sheila became known through her photographic work on the beginnings of punk, but she was also present when bands like Spandau Ballet and Visage were formed at the Blitz Club. As part of the ELECTRI_CITY Conference, there will be a selected accompanying exhibition of her work.
On Saturday, October 26, producer legend Gareth Jones will answer Erik Stein's questions. The man who knows the Hansa Studios like no other produced the band's career-defining albums there with Depeche Mode, Gareth also worked beside other Berlin Icons with the German Industrial band Einstürzende Neubauten. Erik will be the ideal host for this talk and we know he will find a way to get the London Stories and everything about the John Foxx connection out of Gareth.
In 1964, Gloria Jones released a Motown song that is still in everyone's ears today and stormed the charts for the second time as an electronic version by Soft Cell in 1981 appeared. Gloria will be interviewed by NY music journalist Tony Mann, who, in addition to her musical work, also knows the life story of the woman at Marc Bolan's side too well.
Netflix recently discovered all the glorious stories of the New Romantic scene and created a monument to the legendary Blitz Club in Covent Garden. DJ Rusty Egan was not only the House DJ to the Club but formed the groundbreaking Band Visage together with doorman Steve Strange. He will be coming to our anniversary conference as he helped us launch the format in 2015. Rusty will present the historical playlist from 1980 to Rudi Esch and, at an early hour, will host a DJ set at the Salon des Amateurs, in Dusseldorfs Kunsthalle, which will be based on current electronic music.
