Dr Oswaldo E. do Amaral is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a researcher at the university’s Centre for Public Opinion Studies (Cesop). In recent years, his research has focused on political and electoral behaviour and levels of support for democracy in Brazil and Latin America, particularly in the context of the rise of the radical right in the region. Between 2023 and 2026, he served as Coordinator of the Political Science and International Relations Area at the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (Capes). Amaral has also been a visiting professor at the University of Salamanca and a visiting researcher at the universities of Oxford, Notre Dame and Sorbonne Nouvelle. He is currently an Academic Visitor at the University of Oxford’s Latin American Centre.

Dr Lucio R. Renno holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh (2004) and is Professor at the Institute of Political Science of the University of Brasília (2006-present). He was Provost for Graduate Studies (2021-2024) and Director of the Institute of Political Science (2020). Between 2015 and 2018, he was President of the Federal District Planning Company (Codeplan). He served as Assistant Professor at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Arizona (2005-2006) and as a postdoctoral researcher at the State University of New York - Stony Brook (2004-2005) and at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies, Hamburg, Germany (2009-2010; 2011; 2013). He has been a visiting professor at Frei Univesitat, Berlin, Germany, and holds the Sergio Buarque de Holanda Chair at the Center for Latin American Studies.

Dr Lígia Mori Madeira holds a PhD in sociology and is Full Professor in the Department of Political Science in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Her research topics include safety policies, criminal justice system, judicial institutions and public policies. Dr Mori Madeira is the current holder of the Cátedra Rio Branco (Rio Branco Chair), a collaboration between King's Brazil Institute and CAPES.

Dr Andreza Aruska de Souza Santos is Director of the King’s Brazil Institute and Reader at King’s College London. A political scientist and social anthropologist, her research focuses on Brazilian politics, extractivism, environmental governance, urban inequality and the relationships between corporations, governments and communities. She is the author and editor of four books, including The Politics of Memory, its Portuguese edition Memória Seletiva, and Faces of Authoritarianism. She is currently leading a British Academy-funded project examining sovereignty, jurisdiction and corporate accountability through the transnational litigation arising from the Mariana dam disaster in Brazil. Before joining King’s, she directed the Brazilian Studies Programme at the University of Oxford.
