El Sol Ribbon Cutting Celebration
Please join us in celebrating the completion of El Sol al Alcance de tus Manos* Community Solar Project and Community Pathway! (*The Sun at Your Fingertips)
The PUD has partnered with the City of Everett to build a solar project in south Everett that is generating funds for the Community Energy Fund, which assists income-qualified PUD customers. The Community Energy Fund is administered by St. Vincent de Paul.
The solar array has a capacity of 400 kilowatts, enough electricity to power approximately 30 homes in a year, and has already generated more than $34,000 in bill credits to assist customers in need.
The fences around the solar array were transformed into a work of art thanks to the talents of local artists and students. Artists Luisana Hernandez, Ruben Trujillo, and Yessica Marquez partnered with us and community members to help bring the artwork to life. Together, they developed the overall design, led youth art activities, and transformed hundreds of individual contributions into a unified public art piece. The artists will be onsite during the ribbon cutting to help guests explore these meaningful installations.
When: Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: 226 W. Casino Rd., Everett, WA 98204 (adjacent to Walter E. Hall Park)
Parking is available at Walter E. Hall Park
Ribbon Cutting: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
This portion of the event will include speeches from City of Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin, PUD Commissioner Julieta Altamirano-Crosby, City of Everett Councilmember Luis Burbano, and PUD Commissioner Sid Logan
Community Celebration: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• Tour the community art projects with the artists
• Learn the technical details of the solar project
• Build a solar oven to take home and create s’mores (while supplies last)
• Learn about the Community Energy Fund
• Enjoy free treats and take home energy-saving items
• Performance by local artist Aurelio Valdez
Please wear sturdy shoes and dress for the weather. This event will happen rain or shine, but it could be cancelled if a storm occurs or if there are significant outages due to weather.
