Eka & Sacred Bells by Sanjukta Sinha Dance Company

Experience a double bill performance featuring renowned Kathak artist Sanjukta Sinha, bringing a mesmerising evening of reflection, collaboration, and the constant rediscovery of the form.

The evening begins with Eka – a powerful solo performed by Sanjukta Sinha accompanied by a live orchestra – followed by The Sacred Bell, an evocative group work exploring rhythm, silence, and the sacred.

Rooted in the idea of singularity in unity, Eka is a return to the self, reflecting the spirit of absolute oneness. In this intimate solo, Sinha weaves together the nuances of Kathak with the depth of both Hindustani and Carnatic classical music, creating a space where movement becomes meditation and individuality finds harmony in unison. Through this work, she explores the many within the one – rhythm and stillness, strength and grace, silence and sound – all coexisting within a single dancing body.

The Sacred Bell delves into the deeper spiritual dimensions of sound and movement, exploring the sacred interplay between rhythm and silence. It reveals the unspoken conversations between movement and stillness, between past and present. It speaks of the divine interplay of sound and silence – how a single bell can awaken something buried deep within us. It is about how dance is not just seen but felt, how a footstep can become a prayer, and how a moment on stage can stretch into eternity – carrying the echoes of the past, the rhythm of the present, and the infinite dance of the future.  
   

A disciple of Padma Bhushan Kumudini Lakhia, a legendary Kathak pioneer and founder of the Kadamb Centre for Dance and Music, Sinha carries forward a tradition rooted in innovation. Honoured with the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar and founder of the Sanjukta Sinha Dance Company in Ahmedabad, she presents this powerful performance as both a tribute to her lineage and a continuing exploration of the resonant truth of sound.
