About this Event
Join us for an intimate and engaging author conversation between Eirinie Carson and Ashley Simpo for the launch of Bloodfire, Baby. Books will be available to purchase at the event.
BLOODFIRE, BABY is a bold examination of motherhood, mental health, class, intergenerational inheritance, and family secrets. Shifting between the propulsive contemporary story of a young mother and the fable-like narrative of a single bloodline of women—from Jamaica to the US—this mind-bending tale will have readers on the edge of their seats from its opening pages.
Eirinie Carson is a member of the Writers Grotto in San Francisco and a frequent contributor to Mother magazine. Her work has also appeared in LitHub, Notre Dame Review, Mortal Mag, Electric Literature, The Sonora Review, and others. Bloodfire, Baby is her first novel.
Ashley Simpo is a writer, editor, and storyteller whose work centers themes of motherhood, identity, community, and liberation. Originally from Oakland, California, she’s spent most of her adult life in Brooklyn, New York, where her writing found its rhythm during the rise of digital storytelling.
She began publishing essays in 2014, and one of her early pieces, The Thing About Your Daughter’s Virginity, connected with a wide audience and opened the door to a broader writing career. Since then, her work has appeared in Essence, Parents Magazine, Insider, BET.com, CRWNMAG, and Shondaland, among others.
Ashley is the author of A Kids Book About Divorce, inspired by conversations with her son, Orion, and the co-editor of 100 Diverse Voices in Parenthood, an anthology highlighting the range of experiences in modern parenting.
In addition to her editorial work, she’s also a doula and community advocate who uses storytelling as a way to build connection and spark care. Her writing blends clarity with warmth, offering readers space to reflect on the complexities of growth, aging, and belonging.
