Come and visit our horses, goats, pigs, and cats, pick up some snacks, refreshments and merchandise from our Visitor Centre and grab a bargain at 'ALADDINS CAVE', our onsite charity shop.
NO PRE-BOOKING REQUIRED
Entry to the sanctuary is FREE but all donations are greatly appreciated.
We accept card payments as well as cash.

👉PLEASE NOTE: There is now a change to our Groom-a-Pony sessions!
They are now PRE-BOOK for £10 a session. Limited availability (6 sessions available) - to prebook please email [email protected] - slots may be available on the day if bookings allow. These sessions are only available at our open days.
Participants in Groom-a-Pony must be aged 6 years or over.
Each session is 20 minutes long, and a member of our team will accompany you and guide you through the grooming process. You will be required to wear a riding hat (we can supply one) during the course of the session as a precaution - we choose horses and ponies that have a suitable temperament for these sessions but horses are naturally unpredictable and every precaution must be taken. SENSIBLE FOOTWEAR IS A MUST during these sessions as you will be taken into the stable with the horse/pony, which increases the risk of having feet stepped on. Please note: only 6 grooming sessions are available per open day.
Groom-a-pony participants receive a certificate, rosette, booklet and small pony teddy on completion of their grooming session.
Members of our team will be on hand to guide you and answer any questions you may have during your visit.

Open Day policy

Please read through this document prior to visiting the Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society.
Please note that these guidelines are in place to ensure everyone’s safety and must be adhered to.
This policy is being reviewed on an ongoing basis and subject to change.
It is recommended that sensible footwear be worn on site, some areas of our grounds are uneven. Dependent on weather conditions the grounds can also become quite muddy.
PLEASE DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS. We have a strict no feeding policy in place. This is not only due to the differing medical needs of each animal but also to prevent aggressive behaviour in the animals and peoples fingers being bitten.
If you wish to donate carrots, apples, feed and treats please see one of our staff or volunteers on site who will be happy to take them to put in the animals feeds if their dietary requirements allow.
Please do not allow your children to run around shouting on site. Many of the animals in our care have come from less than desirable circumstances and we do not wish them to be put under any unnecessary stress which could set them back in their training.
Disrespectful behaviour and abuse of our staff/volunteers/animals will not be tolerated.

We look forward to seeing you soon
