Older people with multiple co-morbidities are at greater risk of rapid deterioration resulting in ‘unexpected death’. The Serious Incident Management Scheme (SIRS) has identified ‘Neglect’ and ‘Unexpected death’ as reportable incidents to the Commission. This places us and our organisation at risk, but mostly highlights the importance of early detection and response to a deteriorating older person.
This workshop is targeted to Nurses and and Managers in Residential Aged Care and Community Care.
Topics covered:
Identifying and responding to signs and risks of a deteriorating older person
Communication and reporting in response to identified deterioration
Review Aged care standard 3(d)
Identifying homeostatic changes in an older person – what should we be looking for
Observation and planning methodology through effective Assessments and Reassessment using the Head-to-Toe approach. Detailed review of clinical observation techniques
Develop an understanding of differing models and how they ‘can be implemented within your clinical setting
Review several Coroner’s case and identify scenarios within your own clinical setting
Everyone’s responsibility within the team – care staff, Registered Nurses, Care supervisors and Doctors
Workshop team approach to managing situations using scenarios.
This course differs from ‘The Deteriorating Patient’ course. If you require this course to meet an education condition please contact the Association prior to registering.
Please read the NSWNMA Education Cancellation, Refund and Catering Policy prior to registering for this course.
Lunch and refreshments are provided.
A CPD Certificate will be provided to attendees at the end of the seminar.
