EDW 2026: MATCHBOOK: Designed to be Made
About this Event
A Custom Craft-Making Workshop by Hi Signs
What does it take to turn an idea on screen into something you can hold in your hands?
For Edmonton Design Week, step inside Hi Signs' 55,000 sq. ft. working facility for MATCHBOOK, an intimate, hands-on workshop exploring the methods behind making.
Over approximately three hours, you'll move through our shop and experience the creative process from concept to completion. Along the way, you'll see how design, printing, materials, technology, and craftsmanship come together to transform an idea into a finished object.
Then, it's your turn to make!
With guidance from the Hi Signs team, you'll create your own illuminated Matchbook lamp. Choose your graphic, move through the fabrication and assembly process, install the lighting and bring your piece to life with the flip of a switch.
The experience extends beyond the workbench. Enjoy coffee from local Piccolo Coffee Lab and bagels from Beb's Bagels while connecting with fellow design enthusiasts, exchanging ideas and sparking conversations about design, process and making.
You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind illuminated piece made by your own hands and a closer look at the method behind bringing an idea into the physical world.
Strike an idea. See what lights up.
