Have you ever thought about where the colours on your clothes come from, or how they might connect with school curriculum? Join Ash Alberg (Manitoba, Canada) and Dr. Samuel Bautista Lazo (Oaxaca, México) for a hands-on natural dyeing workshop.

Working with dyes grown and harvested both in Manitoba and Oaxaca, you'll spend the evening learning techniques and lessons from two land-based textile artists/educators/researchers. Participants will dye organic cotton hankies with cochineal and local flowers to take home.

Samuel (he/him/el) is an Indigenous Oaxacan (Benizaa/Zapotec) weaver, storykeeper, and natural dyer from Xiguie'a (Teotitlán del Valle). Ash (they/them) is a descendent of settlers (Polish/Scottish) who grew up on Treaty 1 territory and co-creates with local plants as a natural dye artist-educator, currently pursuing their PhD in the Faculty of Education. The pair co-conspire on various projects centered around material and ancestral knowledges with more-than-human kin, collaborating across cultures and landscapes.
