Join Operation Fruit Rescue Edmonton for it's next (and last for the season) unforgettable Saturdays of apple pressing, youth-friendly workshops, and good old-fashioned orchard magic.
📍 Avonmore – Oct 4th
The neighborhood named after Lord Avonmore of Ireland, who passed through Edmonton on his way to the Klondike Gold Rush in 1897
🍎 Bike-powered apple crushing, preservation demos, kids at the press, orchard blessing, garden tours. Orchard blessing, food forest tours, cider tasting, apple pressing fun for all ages
❤️ Volunteers Welcomed - We’re looking for 10 volunteers per event—help with setup, cider stations, or welcoming guests. Great for families, teens, or anyone who loves fall festivals. Reach out if you’d like to help make this celebration shine.
Our first two events were a great success, with hundreds of pounds of apples picked, delivered for pressing and turned into nearly 600 litres of cider.
Kids had a blast peddling the apple crusher, sampling fresh made fruit leather and learning about apples, juice and cider!
âžś Why We Celebrate the Apple
Each fall, Edmontonians gather not just to press apples—but to honour them. We bless the trees that feed us, give thanks for what the season brings, and teach kids that food isn’t just something you buy—it’s something you care for.
Our orchard blessing ceremony revives an ancient tradition called wassailing—where songs are sung to the trees, cider is poured at their roots, and joy is shared to call forth next year’s harvest. It’s silly. It’s soulful. And your kids will never forget it.
âžś Why Families Keep Coming Back
This may be the first official month-long Apple Cider Celebration, but our family pressing events have been a hit for years.
Children pedal the Apple Annihilator (our bike-powered fruit crusher), press juice, and sip the results right there. Families learn to preserve fruit, reduce waste, and discover how something as simple as an apple can create community.
The smell of warm cider fills the air. Spiced fruit leather cooks nearby. Minstrels strum medieval tunes on guitar and harp. You won’t just attend—you’ll feel immersed in the season.
🍎 What to Bring
âžś Picked apples (if you have them)
âžś A reusable mug for hot cider
âžś A tote or bucket of fruit to donate
Curiosity, cozy layers, and maybe a picnic blanket!
Please note there is NO Wheelchair access to washrooms, located in the basement of the league hall.
