Contra dance comes all the way from America and is cousin to the familiar Scottish ceilidh. Contra is a little smoother and gentler, the figures are a little different, and the music has a different accent.Great live music from HOIK - that's Edward Wallace (fiddle), Alan Brunier (accordion), and Tom Oakes (guitar). Dances will be called by special guest Charlie Turner, travelling up from England.
All are welcome, family friendly, no partner needed, no experience necessary, all dances taught. Fifteen-minute welcome session for new dancers starts at 7:45pm, dance runs 8:00 - 10:30pm.
As usual, the dance will be suitable for beginners as well as seasoned contra-dancers, and all are welcome. Tickets are on a pay-what-you-feel scale from £10 to £20, and can be purchased on the door (cash only) or in advance via Citizen Ticket. Under 12s get in free.
