Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust are pleased to be organising The Edinburgh Canal Festival and Raft Race event for the second year running on Sat 17th June (12noon-4.30pm). We are bringing forward some of the traditional elements of past festivals together with some new partners, to make it a real celebration of social enterprise and local community groups that operate on or near the canal, year-round.Come and discover the 6 zones that stretch from the Lochrin Basin all the way to Harrison Park - each zone has a mix of activities, great food, art and music performances. Walk, wheel, scoot or take the ‘Kingfisher shuttle’ between zones and explore our local blue and green spaces. Apart from the activities, community stall holders will be raising awareness about their organisations, their mission and goals, and how to get involved or support their work.
We're also delighted this year to dedicate one of our zones as a 'Climate Fringe' event with a focus on climate and sustainability. With science and theory provided by ‘Climate Detectives’ from Heriot-Watt University sitting alongside practical drop-in activities from Shrub Co-op and Edinburgh Seed Network, we hope everyone will find something of interest here. The Climate Fringe is a community-led and community-organised series of events taking place across the whole of Scotland. (You can find other events on their website climatefringe.org)
The highlight of the day is Raft Race which will be taking place at 3pm next to Leamington Lift Bridge. Registration is now open for entries, and we can’t wait to see the ingenious and hilarious designs people have come up with. There are great prizes for First Place, Most Entertaining and Most Creative. Participation in the Raft Race is FREE.
