Edible Education 101

This uniquely UC Berkeley course, now in its twelfth year, invites students and Berkeley community members to actively engage in food innovation and entrepreneurship by exploring the future of food systems. Food offers a diverse platform for creating change in rapid and tangible ways. Edible Education is a weekly lecture series that invites renowned experts – leading academics, activists, and entrepreneurs – to campus to share their visions and experiences within food systems and further our understanding of food’s critical role in our culture, well-being, and survival.

This Spring, we draw inspiration from the best of Berkeley changemakers: past and present community members who apply their distinct Berkeley experience to positively impact their wider networks and organizations. A remarkable cohort of Berkeley doers including Alice Waters, Michael Pollan, Marion Nestle, and David Mas Masumoto will lead fresh and timely lectures each week, and ignite conversations about transforming potential into action. Additionally, learn from fellow students and benefit from the guidance of the course’s curator, Professor Will Rosenzweig, the founder of The Republic Tea, whose inspiring work in social entrepreneurship earned him the Oslo Business for Peace Award and other notable recognition.

Collaborating with a fantastic interdisciplinary teaching staff, Edible Education encourages community members from all academic and professional backgrounds to come together to feast on ideas, inspiration, and fresh produce from our mini “farmer’s market.” Edible Education returns to the Berkeley community this Spring, to continue generating and supporting a new community of Berkeley changemakers.
