Edible Art: Alma Thomas Art for Black History Month!
For kids of all ages!
Black History Month begins on February 1st, but, truly, any time is a great time to learn about Black History!
This edible art kit contains frosting, candies, and instructions to create a project in the abstract style of Alma Woodsey Thomas.
Who was Alma Woodsey Thomas?
Alma was a Black painter who only started painting seriously after she retired from teaching at the age of 68. Alma's paintings typically featured bright, vivid colors arranged in a mosaic style. In 1972, when Alma was 81 years old (!), she became the first Black woman to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.
