4-20-2025 Ecstatic Dance Houston Sunday dance: this week, Natural Spring with Andy K.
Springtime is a wondrous season in most of the Northern hemisphere, as the powerful, icy grip of winter begins to loosen and recede. It's a miracle: the living things start to rise up out of the earth begin the awakening process which follows their dark season of rest. Now, the harsh cold of winter has much less of an impact on our semi-tropical city. But the good feeling of springtime is still here. I like dancing together with EDH at any time of year, because it often brings me a sensation of vitality and energy that comes from the natural feeling when I basically just get up and dance.
That's really at the core of what Ecstatic Dance Houston does every week. Our ritual of creative freedom and self-expression takes the form of a freestyle dance, with no specific technique and no moves to learn. So it is quite simple. The underlying values of this dance are peace, love, unity, and respect for ourselves and others. Your presence at the dance indicates your willingness to cooperate with these shared intentions. We will offer specific guidance on-site about the boundaries and methods we use to play together.
Please feel free to arrive around 10:00 if you want to help clean and purify the space. Warm-up starts at 10:30. Opening circle is around 11. After that, the music takes us through a storyboard of imagination, from the underground, earth tone music into the glorious and refreshing songs about water coming up into sunlight. After that, our usual plan is to wind up together in a closing circle. Y'all are welcome to drop in or out at any time, but it is suggested to be there for the whole ride if you can. This dance is a clean and sober environment, and suitable for children of all ages, 0 - ~100. Printed guidelines for the dance are provided at the donation station by the door. Comment box is available for written feedback about the experience. We have earplugs available in the DJ booth if the volume is causing discomfort. Please let the DJ know if you are sensitive to strobe lights. Come on and dance with us if you want to. Y'all are invited. If you have questions, feel free to ask. Together we can explore the refreshing sensations of a Natural Spring.
