About this Event
This is an independant local theater project that explores queer themes in Edgar Allan Poe's: Lenore, The Raven, Caske of Amontillado, and Masque of the Red Death. The show is roughly 90 minutes, there will be no intermission and the venue seats a max of 50 people; allowing for an intimate spot of theater.
This is first and foremost a passion project . It's aim is to allow a space for new perspectives, queer stories, and showcasing that we've been here all along. It was written and directed by Lara Ben Zvi who states that it stands as a love letter to the macabre and gothic.
You'll find that while new dialogue has been written to help viewers follow the storylines and these adaptations, Poe's works have been left unaltered. They remain in their entirety his original wording and stylistic choices. The play aims to showcase how his writings can be interpreted, and in the spirit of that we left them verbally unaltered.
While there is no mature language or overt mature themes, the play consists of primarily 1800s english terminology. It is all ages appropriate, but the content is dense. However, programs will be provided at the door that offer a brief synopsis of each of Poe's works so even those who haven't read it before can have an idea of what to expect and to help them follow along!
