If you're not sure what it is or are new to the practice, Ecstatic Dance is freeform style dance/movement, meaning it's not a led class... you're invited to move however you like to the music. You can dance, rave, move, jump, stretch, connect, play, sweat however you feelNo partner or experience is necessary, and you don't have to dance with anyone else. The focus is on using freedom of movement and dance to abandon yourself to the rhythm of the music and achieve an 'ecstatic' state of being. We still the mind by moving our body
LOTS of people say to me they couldn't imagine doing anything like this sober, some going as far as to say it's a "nightmare" scenario... after a few drinks though, they'd be up on the dance floor without thinking twice 🤔
It's easy to become self-conscious & awkward when the 'judging' mind takes over, but EVERYONE who comes to this event is here for the same thing - to let go, to shake off all that everyday bullshit that stops us from doing what we want to do, feeling how we want to feel and being who we know we truly are!
For me, a lot of the things that occur on the subconscious level throughout our days and weeks, things we barely notice at the time, often come to the surface - you can move with and through pain, rage, frustration and grief as well as love, hope and joy... Ecstatic Dance gives us a space where we can embrace the full spectrum of what it means to be human, giving our emotions a chance to be expressed, and by doing so, we can be come unstuck ourselves
We also end with some deep relaxation, so you'll leave on a relaxed but energised high 😄 back home in time for tea and toast before bed
