About this Event
The Department of Government and Public Policy, in collaboration with the European Policies Research Centre (EPRC), is pleased to invite you to a special guest lecture by Dr. Raphael L’Hoest, Deputy Director-General at the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action. The lecture will be held on Wednesday, October 9th, at 3:30 PM, at the University of Strathclyde’s Technology and Innovation Centre.
Dr. L’Hoest will speak on the topic, "The Economics and Politics of Reconciling Economic Development and Decarbonisation Policy Objectives." This event also serves to commemorate the longstanding sponsorship of the EPRC-led European Regional Policy Research Consortium co-founded by the German Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action and a partnership that has been ongoing since the late 1970s.
Speaker Bio
Raphael L'Hoest is Deputy Director General for Competition and Structural Policy in the Directorate General for Economic Policy of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy in Berlin. He is an economist and holds a PhD from the University of Cologne, which he gained after research fellowships at Harvard and Cornell University, as well as a Master in Political Science from George Washington University. He entered public office in 1998 and has held multiple senior positions in economic, structural and financial policy that included service at the German embassies in Washington, D.C. and Bangkok, the Federal Chancellery as well as the preparation of G8 summits. He is also currently a member of the Supervisory Board of the German Federal Financial Services Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the Deutsche Bahn AG. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the German FIW research institute on competition issues.
