Through writing + reflection, participants will explore the Anishinaabe concept of Mino Bimaadiziwin (Leading A Good Life).
About this Event

This writing workshop is led by artists Hadassah Greensky and Maya Davis. Participants will reflect on the Anishinaabe concept Mino Bimaadiziwin: Leading A Good Life. Guided by the sculpture’s poetic cycle of rainfall and return, we will explore our personal and collective relationships to water, with particular attention to the histories of Black and Indigenous access, dispossession, and ongoing reclamation along the Rouge. What stories does the river hold? Whose voices has it carried, and whose have been silenced? What does it mean to listen deeply to water in a city where clean access is still unequally distributed?

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Hadassah Greensky: an Anishinaabe artist who grew up in Oxford, MI and now based in Detroit. She is a cultural worker, multidisciplinary artist, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist who uses modern and ancestral knowledge to create visibility and equity for Native People. GreenSky curates events, focusing on experiences for the underserved urban Native community. She is co-founder of Vibes With The Tribes, Michigan’s first Native music festival. GreenSky works as a teaching artist for the College for Creative Studies and the Detroit Historical Society. (Bio courtesy of Kresge Arts in Detroit)
