About this Event

Programme

Joseph Haydn

Overture to La Fedeltà Premiata

Carl Maria von Weber

Konzertstück for Piano and Orchestra (Svyatoslav Antipov, piano)

Ludwig van Beethoven

Symphony No. 1 in C major, Op. 21

Luigi Cherubini

Overture to Faniska

This programme brings together four composers linked by a remarkable moment in musical history. In 1805, Joseph Haydn, Ludwig van Beethoven and the young Carl Maria von Weber were all present at the premiere of Cherubini’s opera Faniska — a meeting point between the Classical world and the emerging Romantic imagination.

From Haydn’s sparkling theatrical wit to Beethoven’s revolutionary First Symphony and Cherubini’s dramatic operatic energy, the programme traces a vibrant musical landscape shaped by friendship, admiration and artistic influence across early nineteenth-century Europe. Weber’s brilliant and deeply expressive Konzertstück will be performed by the talented Morley student pianist Svyatoslav Antipov, while the Morley Chamber Orchestra is conducted by Charles Peebles, continuing the rich orchestral tradition of Morley College London.
