Echoes of Industry: A walk-through Imperial Oil’s former refinery land

50 years ago Imperial Oil closed their Southeast refinery in the Millican/Ogden neighbourhood after operating from 1923 to 1974. Calgary welcomed the industry as oil was shaping the western Canadian landscape. In the 1950s, however, the expansion faced much community resistance. Come walk through the former refinery lands and learn the history including its relationship to Deerfoot Trail and Ralph Klein.

WALK NOTES: paved trails but some uneven terrain, will use speakers/voice amplification

MEETING SPOT: Ogden Road and 50th Ave SE, turn-off into Refinery Park and park in the 1st parking lot. (North of Millican Estates, take care when putting address into map and ensure you are headed to the correct spot).
