A special concert celebrating words spoken and sung
About this Event

On Friday 1st April, words and music collide as award-winning poet Roger McGough collaborates with the acclaimed voices of Echo Vocal Ensemble. Join both artists in the stunning space of St John's Church in Hoxton, London for an exploration of slowing down, speeding up again, and what freedom might mean to us now.

The show is a witty and surprisingly joyful meditation on events of recent years, and features poetry from Roger's recent collection "Safety in Numbers" alongside music from the 17th century to the present day.

Roger McGough is an award-winning poet, playwright, broadcaster and author of over a hundred books of poetry for adults and children. He has been described as ‘The godfather of modern British poetry’ by the Metro and the ‘The patron saint of poetry’ by Carol Ann Duffy.

The show explores the ways in which spoken words and sung words can be combined, with music from the 17th century to the present day by Henry Purcell, Robert Ramsey, Undine Smith Moore and Florence Price alongside improvisation and folksong.
